UP THE RIVER, UP THE MOUNTAIN
We will invade a building in downtown Bogotá. Once inside we will deploy small-scale paradoxical actions, à la Beistegui apartment by Le Corbusier, by knitting together windows or doors that can swiftly punctuate a corridor. Or perhaps the participants of this workshop will cling to the cracks of the building and attempt to fuse them with timber and plastic interventions that are conceived with algorithmic design processes. This appropriation of a structure in the city will allow us to interrogate one of Bogotá’s most striking features: its bizarre ad infinitum phase construction, where everything is half built and nothing is finished. All of the work will be dirty and on site within the building that we take command of. Algorithmic design and digital fabrication will drive this workshop, enabling us to shrink down the city to a manageable human scale and giving us the power to fabricate a speculative Bogotá.
Ocuparemos un edificio en el centro de Bogotá. Una vez adentro, desplegaremos pequeñas acciones paradójicas en el espacio, à la Le Corbusier para el Apartamento Beistegui. Se tejerán ventanas o puertas. Se acentuarán corredores. Tal vez algunos participantes de este taller se cuelgen de las grietas del edificio y las difuminen con intervenciones en plástico y madera. Todo será concebido a partir de procesos de diseño algorítmico.
La apropiación de esta estructura en la ciudad, nos permitirá interrogar una de las cualidades más notables y bizarras de Bogotá: está en obra, siempre. A medio hacer. Todos en este taller, tutores, participantes, invitados, se ensuciarán las manos y fabricarán dentro del edificio que ocupemos. Diseño algorítmico y técnicas de fabricación digital guiarán este taller, permitiéndonos escalar estos asuntos macro a escalas humanas, y ofreciendonos la posibilidad de construir una bogotá especulativa.
